They didn't want to announce NX, but their sudden decision to only cover 2015 for the home console certainly begs the question of why now?

Because that's how Nintendo rolls now.

Translation: We're stashing our big titles away, because we're probably going to release a new home console next year, but please buy the Wii U now?

Yep that's pretty much how I interpreted that statement too. "We focus on the now because we don't want to accidentally unveil our new system".
