He'll be around. After the mobile announcement, they are pretty much golden. Nintendo has their fingers in too many pies now to be considered in a vulnerable state. You're just thinking of home consoles and Nintendo is far more than that now.

their core business is making games, once that falls apart the rest will follow. giving licenses to their franchises wont work if their franchises decline in sales and lose their popularity. sooner or later, people will get tired with amiibo's. and if their salvation is mobile... then guess thats the worst possible thing to happen to them. to become a mobile gaming company... they might be making money, but they wont be "Nintendo".

Its as you say. Their core business is making games....right now. Doesn't matter if its on a console or on mobile. Nintendo didn't start out making video games. It started out as a card company. They also owned love hotels and sold instant rice and vacuums door to door. Nintendo has done all sorts of things to evolve as a business. Maybe we're all witnesses to another evolution.
