As has been said over, and over again. The Kickstarter was to gauge interest, Sony will be helping fund, and develope Shenmue 3.

http://www.vgchartz.com/article/259599/sony-to-help-develop-shenmue-3-kickstarter-was-to-test-popularity/

Sony rather then funding Shenmue 3 screwed their fans by having them kick start the games. This kick starter while gauging interest is also reducing Sony overall risk and increasing their future profit. While at the same time receiving a major marketing boost for being connect to Shenmue 3. Kickstarter was meant to be use by small developper with the support of fan to produce a game that would never of seen the light of day. Now a big coorparation like Sony is abusing the nature of kick starter to increase their profit and reduce their risks. I think this move actually set a very bad predecedent.

The big winner is not the fans.. it's Sony. Free marketing and increase profit and potential earnings.

If you look around the internet you will find your opinion on this to be one of a select few... most are postive that a game no one would touch (not MS or even Sega) has got the chance to be made.

You do know that when ever a game is made a company will *ALWAYS* try to mitigate cost and risk right? or do you think that companies just make whatever they want and if it doesnt work they move onto the next gam.e Of course Sony wanted to help, but its still a massive risk considering the only people who might buy it might be the backers.
