You know funny enough, Wii U's failure might be Nx's boon.

Imagine for a moment that NX, is indeed N cross and that two platforms are launching, one first(handheld) one later(console). Now they essentially big brother and little brother console, one more powerful than the other but share the same genes, for lack of a better word.

They wont share the same libraries, but have a few similar titles. Like for example, Mario Kart can be released on the platforms, one 720p, the other 1080p, and can be played together, can share data. They will have their own libraries of other unique games, but there will be special crossplay type games like these.

And another way they 'cross' is 'Wii U' functionality. essentially dual screen gaming and backwards compatibility for Wii U games, and to interact in other ways(streaming content from the big bro NX maybe?).

Just to clarify though, I'm saying the NX is not a handheld or console, but a siamese twin deal, a Wii U essentially but split up.  Each their own thing, but can be combined and share alot, but the handheld will launch first with the console coming a bit later.

Well I dunno, but I'll bookmark this in case it does pan out with an I told you so.
