Do you think capcom was thinking about that 80 million when they clearly know that the next generation is starting? Good business is done by planning for future prosperity and not by past glory. Clearly looking the sales difference between the 3ds and vita, and strong sales of Monster hunter on the Nintendo 3DS, I think capcom made the right business, don't yah thing? There are 3 upcoming Monster hunter games (Monster hunter stories, monster hunter x and monster hunter diaries). Clearly Capcom is very happy with the series being on Nintendo handheld systems.
