What we most likely are seeing and it's not the first time , is Kickstarter being used to gauge customer/gamer support ,for a game that has a backer .
Apparently during Itagaki's Kickstarter he talked about having 90% of the cost covered by investors and the 10% kickstarter amount had a twofold purpose one being to show that the interest was actually real and secondly to give people a vehicle to have an investment with the game and the benefits that brings.
