Shenmue is like Earthbound. It's old and despite having a vocal fanbase, there is no way of gauging the current level of interest. If it can raise the needed funds, then it has at least enough interest to work right. Sony put it in the conference in order to gain the friendship of Shenmue fans. Sorta of a token effort for now. Probably a bit more assistance will come if it actually gets the needed funding.
