LOL how did this derail into a PS3 has not many true 1080p games thread?
Which is btw. most probably a correct statement. And btw this is awesome. As long as most people (like me) have 720p TVs it would be pretty idiotic to hope for 1080p games that have 50% pixel operations per screen pixel.
After you have a reasonable resolution the added quality from higher resolutions gets lower and lower. From my PC gaming times I can say that you definitely NEED 800*600 otherwise everything is jaggy and small details cannot be replicated (text is terrible for example), 1024*768 was my preferred resolution (I would play in 1024*768 and optimize the other settings for it) and everything above was at best a marginal improvement, nice for headshots in ET but not much more.
So 720p is one of the best improvements gaming ever had because SD looks awful, 1080p is nice if the game isn't pixel bound but generally you should hope that the developers use the pixel operations they have for better lighting, shadows etc. instead of upping the resolution to 1080p.
