What was the "pay off" for Sonic in Smash? As far as I can tell, Sega was the one paid off. They got to use Mario characters in Mario & Sonic at the Olympics. That was the exchange -- Nintendo gave Mario to Sega, Sega gave Sonic to Nintendo. If you really think there has to be some kind of benefit to Nintendo involved other than having these characters in their game, just assume this is all part of the 3-year Monster Hunter exclusivity contract we've all heard so much about. Maybe Capcom is extending the contract in return for Nintendo using Smash Bros to promote Street Fighter V. |
