The 2D ones are a different beast to the 3D games. Though what "Metroidvania" have Nintendo made? Retro are the only developer to pull that one off. Maybe that's why Nintendo relegated them to 2D games afterwards? :P

Yes, Lords of Shadow was a God of War clone, hence the suggestion that Metroid should also become God of War based on your logic as it would surely be even more popular that way ;)
