Sales - GTA4 piracy numbers. - View Post

I've just been to see if any of the gamestores have GTA in yet (none of the current gen consoles have been officially released here yet, so all the stores sell imports). They all said it will be in Thursday, but the funny thing is they're all selling pirate 360 versions already, and probably have been for quite a few days (I didn't have time to look last week). I don't even know if many are even bothering to import the 360 version or not, everybody's probably already bought the copy of it.

Whilst they all sell pirate Wii games, they also carry original Wii games, but hardly any sell original 360 games, it's all copies. Must be the demographic, casuals are more likely to buy originals than copies.

Valkyria still not in yet either, but they said it's coming Thursday with GTA. I might just wait for the NA version later in the year though. GTA should keep me busy until MGS.

the only problem with the PS3 not hacked is because an empty bluray disk cost so much, that even the hackers cant afford the costs

1that's a silly excuse. ever heard of a hard drive? i'm sure every ps3 has one, if they wanted to hack it they could still use the hard drive to run hacked games, but they don't, because they can't, because they can't hack the ps3 yet.

BD prices aren't that expensive, you can buy pirate Blu-ray movies here for around $9. Piracy is big business in Asia, and it's done on a large scale in factories. When they finally crack the PS3 they'll start pumping out pirate PS3 games on BD same as they do for the movies. I often hear that PS3 games are too big to download from the internet for most people's connection, but this is irrelevant in the parts of the world where piracy is most rampant. People don't download games, they buy them from shops.

Many people are waiting for the PS3 to be cracked by some bedroom hacker, but my bet is it will be criminal gangs in Asia who will first hack it to play copies. There's a lot of profit for them once that happens, so I'm sure they're putting quite a bit of effort into it. They're not interested in hacking it so it can play from the HDD, they want to sell the games on BD.
