Except companies like Capcom and EA have had content on disc and actually charged people and they're far from the only ones as well.

What exactly is your point? Nintendo is charging ppl for some of the content on their disc too. Don't make it sound like these companies were doing something underhanded and Nintendo isn't. The end result is exactly the same, just because your get a fancy little figure to go with it does not really change what it indeed is: keeping content back for you to pay extra to get.  Plain and simple.

And their delivery of their free content is still (atm) witholding content from you. The fact that it is free should not even be the consolation consideration here: of course the content is free, you already paid for it.

Again we're not paying for the content so holding it back to release later is not exactly as big an issue, these companies actually made you pay for what's already on the disc multiple times. In regards to Amiibos they work across various game and will have support for years to come that's what people get on top of buying them this is why the DLC comparison is some what amusing as how much DLC is compatible with future games, other game series and different platforms from the same developer.
