Platinum has said that they would love to be a second party studio to Nintendo. They want to continue working with their hardware, including the 3DS. They've also stated that sales wasn't the focus on making their games. Of course, easy for them to say when Nintendo is covering the tab, but Nintendo's passionate approach has obviously impressed them. From getting people from Sega to help them work on Bayo's development, when they were overwhelmed, and allowing them to use properties they're so protective of. In my opinion, I wish we had more of these relationships in the industry. It shouldn't be about buying IPs, or buying studios to secure IPs. It should be about working together with studios, and show how much you care about said IPs to secure them in a healthy manner. |
Except it kind of is a business, not a charity.
Of course Platinum would like to by a Nintendo 2nd party. They are a studio on shaky financial ground that has to grovel to get funding from project to project.
Being an official Nintendo 2nd party would mean that they would have stable gaurunteed funding from a billion dollar company that they have a good working relationship with.
I mean would you rather have a job where you were on contract and could be let go any time, or would rather have a full time position where you're gaurunteed a salary and benefits?
The game development landscape is harsh these days.
