This is the only statement that is needed, because it's as simple as that. If not for Microsoft's and Nintendo's mistakes Sony would not be in the lead this generation. 


Of course they would. They would easily win in Europe and in Japan they really sell consoles unlike MS. Also I still assume Sony sells Playstation in more countries than MS (and perhaps Nintendo) does. So it would come down to US and UK and I doubt there would be such a big difference to compensate the sales from other countries/regions. But I guess the competition would be better and the sales-split not as big as it is now.
