Splatoon had three testfires, multiple commercials in every region, billboards, froyo advertising, pre-order bonuses, events in Time Square, the Mess Fest, a partnership with GameTruck, game demos at multiple conventions, displays in many stores, etc.

Bayonetta's marketing wasn't even close.
