Ofc, if the game averages around 85 (which is good) I hope I won't see people going around saying that critics don't matter and the game deserves at least 95 (and I read something like this for Splatoon). Averages are there because they must somehow summarize the opinion of all kinds of reviewers. Which is why saying that a reviewer shouldn't be considered because he said he didn't like the previous chapter in the series is silly.

After all "universal acclaim" exactly means that almost everyone that played the game loved it. If a relevant share of reviewers don't like it, it deserves less than 90%, period. Oh and we both know that metaritic doesn't include kotaku's reviews for a different reason.
