Splatoon is such a frustrating game to me. It has such a great foundation, but there are just too many issues with it right now for me to jump in for the asking price. Nintendo could have killed it by pulling a Team Fortress 2 and making it free to play. Or they could have kept it at $60 and made it a full package.

I'd jump in if:

- It didn't artificially restrict the maps you could play every four hours. Maps should be selected like in Mario Kart 8 where you vote from a pool of selected maps.

- It had Pro Controller support online. There absolutely no excuse for leaving that out.

- It had more modes. I always say this: Mario Kart is fun for the tracks. Smash is fun for the characters. A game like Splatoon should be thriving on it's modes primarily. That's what keeps people playing. A four player free-for-all multiplayer mode should have been a no brainer. A 2v2 local mode too. Maybe a local mode against a giant boss monster like what was in Metroid Blast, the Nintendo Land game. I don't even work there, and I already thought of three excellent multiplayer modes for the local multiplayer alone. The lack of modes is embarrassing. It needs at LEAST one decent local mode and 4-5 online mode. And that's the bare minimum.

- Way more maps. There should have been at LEAST a dozen maps at launch. In a perfect world, there would have been 24 minimum. It's hard to see people making blatant comparisons to Smash and Mario Kart without noticing the vast difference in arenas.

- Voice chat. There's no excuse. People should be able to play with their friends. Even if you had to pay like $.30 DLC to unlock the right to use it, there's no reason someone should have to go through a third party application like Skype to talk to their friends while playing Splatoon.

Splatoon is such a let down to me. So much dropped potential.

So you didn't play game but it's too frustrating for you!? That's not logical at all.

If they make Splatoon free to play, why later dont do same with Mario Kart or SSB... If you want full package, then wait for august and buy full package at same price, or you can enjoy game write away..

-Almost everybody who bought game it will say that he have blast with it. Game is pure fun and it have surprisingly depth, tactic and play style highly dependent on each map, weapon or best combination of gear. And that's why they have rotation of available maps, it does need to have more maps for rotation in less time, but even like this is very fun.

-GamePad is very helpful in matches, you can see map at any time how your team is progressing and jump to aid them by tapping screen, using motion controls in combination with analog sticks is so much easier for controlling and aiming. In game menu, shops, lobby...you all that have on gamepad, its very simply, well organized and fast to when you go shop or lobby. So yes, it have very good excuse for leaving Controller Pro support online out.

-2 available mods for now is ok, in august 4 available mods will be more than very good.

-I agree that need more maps, but even when was 5 maps (now is 6) you could very enjoy game, and we know more maps are coming. For this type of game 10-15 is very good, we know at least 14 maps will be available.

-Voice chat need to be option for people who want that, but even leaving voice chat out dont think its big problem because game is very intense and you always knowing (because of gamepad) whats going out in match and in 3 minutes time you don't have need or time to talk with teammates about strategies or something else. So its relly not big deal if you cant talk with teammates,if you really can't play without Voice Chat (i cant see why) you can you use alternative, like Skype or something similar..

If you played game you could easily see that most of your complaints are not in place at all or they are exaggerated.

First, I played the test fire. Second, the "you haven't played the game" excuse is tired and null. You may not have any faith in your prior gaming experience to be able to pass judgement based off what you see, but I do. You don't have to play everything to accurately call out something. I don't need to play the same two maps in the same mode for four straight hours to "prove" that thats a stupid concept. I've played enough games over enough years to be able to tell immediately that that's a stupid concept.

- Nearly every review out there is criticizing the game for its shallow content. No one is saying Splatoon is bad. No one is saying that it's not fun or that it lacks depth. I did say it wasn't "a blast to play," I said it was frustrating.

- Nothing a minimap and the Dpad couldn't do. Minimap on the screen and tie each team mate to a direction on the dpad for the boost jump. Or just go the lazy route and keep everything on the gamepad for the 1% of the time you look down on the gamepad and just let players use the Pro Controller anyway. I think the motion controls are terrible. Never had any issues demolishing opponents or spreading ink without them. Can't see a reason why I should, then, be left without a comfortable, and readily available, option like the Pro Controller at launch. Especially when it already works in another mode in the game. Absolutely stupid.

- 2 modes available for a $60 shooter with only five maps in a 2 map-4 hour rotation is definitely not "okay."

- Voice chat isn't just about strategy. Sometimes it's just fun to talk to other players online. I'll never understand the fear of angry toddlers online. They aren't the majority. Most people online are fine. Met many great gamers playing online. That's impossible in Splatoon. You could have a great set of matched with a great team and you'll never see them again because of the lack of voice chat. Don't need to play a single round of Splatoon to see that.
