It's getting worse, thanks to western companies. They caused a crash before, and they're really trying to cause another one.
The former glorified Japanese studios, besides a few exceptions... Have changed for worse as well.
I blame western studios/publisher AND the rise of mobile, for the decline in quality and ethical standards in the industry.
And game quality wise... Not much is new, since the leap between 6th and 7th Gen was bigger than the current one.
"New" ways to play have failed to make an impact, AAA games are declining in quality besides some notable exceptions.
I guess it'll improve after the seventh Gen consoles shut down completely, and game quality will rise with the experience devs will get while working with the new consoles.
I don't expect anything close to Mario Galaxy in the near future though.
