The trouble with A Dance with Dragons is that the whole book is building to specific events, yet said events don't come to pass and are saved for The Winds of Winter. The whole book feels unsatisfying as a result, even though I personally found the bulk of it to be better than, at least, A Feast for Crows and A Clash of Kings.
