Definitely the most polarizing of the games. I'd say it's what separates the newer generation of FF fans from the old. In terms of respect I'd probably say it's seen as very mild for the series... It's my absolute fave (right behind 12 and 3) but I can understand why some don't like it -as long as the opinion doesn't come from the regular FF community (the absolute most cancerous fan-base of all of gaming), then I respect how people feel about it. It's not for everyone, but there's something very beautiful about the world that I can't get enough of. The soundtrack is amazing imo (especially To Zanarkand which I think is brilliant) but I think FF7 just edges it out to me by a slight margin.
