Oh cool another game that has a lot of free DLC up to August. 
If the content doesn't take away anything meaningful its still not a big deal. But if you're stuck with a file status that says incomplete because you didn't buy DLC, then that's pretty messed up.
Then again Mario Kart 8 does tease the 4 dlc tracks you can buy in all race modes which is distracting for those who don't want to buy them. It also prevents you from getting all stamps in the game. Fortunately, MK8 dlc was extremely affordable.
Smash Bros actually does it right by not showing Mewtwo in the character screen with a lock next to it.
