It wasn't just Magic's Lakers either, Bird also had to deal with the Dr. J's Sixers in the early years, Olajuwon's Rockets in the finals of '86, and the Bad Boy Pistons in the Eastern Conference.
People tend to forget, but back in 80s and 90s, the league was MUCH more physical and at times dirty than it is today.
Back then, there were no flagrant fouls, or hand checking, etc.
So guys like Magic, Bird, and MJ played in a MUCH more physically and mentally demanding league than LeBron faces now.
