I don't count world maps as really exploring the world. It's just an illusion that it gives off. Anyway, yeah, forced parties can be pretty annoying. 

I just remembered something I hate, I've only experienced this once but: Seeing all the characters on the box art but only being able to play as half of them XD

I do when these world maps lead to dungeons for great armor (yep, actual armor in a game), towns that are inhabited by strange people that don't really need to do more than make the world you explore feel more alive, I love those things about jrpgs.
