JRPGs are a fascinating genre. Some stick to their classic roots, while others have changed the formula over the years. They are a genre that has slowly evolved over the years. JRPG is one of my favorite genres, but I can admit that there are aspects and design choices that often annoy me to no end. I'm here to list some of my grievances and encourage you all to list and explain your own as well!

**This thread is mainly for those who like JRPGs, but have issues with some fo the conventions. If you don't like JRPGs, this thread is not for you, so please don't bash, just for the sake of bashing.

Disclaimer: This is not represented by all fans, just myself.

Here we go:

1) Save spots- When JRPGs have points where you have to go for a long period of time without saving your game. I understand the need to not save in certain locations, but when you go into a long dungeon with cheap random encounters that can one shot you, there goes all that time, wasted.

2) Random encounters- I might have played too many newer types of JRPGs, but when I went back to play FFX, the random encounters sometimes drove me insane, especially in areas such as the Calm Lands. This annoyance is heightened now more than ever to me.
--Subset of random encounters-- I also hate when JRPGs have some kind of screen right before a random encounter. It might not feel annoying at first, but when you continue to get random encounter after random encounter, it starts to add up; especially if the encounter takes some time to load.

3) Backtracking- Some JRPGs are guilty of this feature where they make you go back and forth between quests, or the main story just to deliver a quest, or move along the main story. Some of the biggest offenders I can remember were Lost Odyssey and it's Temply of Enlightment. Seriously, the dungeon itself was a pain, but after you beat the boss, you had to go back through the whole dungeon just to get out of it.

4) Spilting up the party-  When you've reached a certain point in a JRPG and the game decides it's time to split up the party. Removing one, or a bunch of characters. I understand how it can hold plot significance, but to me it breaks up the flow of the game. Especially if you have good equipment attached to them, or you lose your main healer.

5) Too many party members- When a games gives you 7, or 8 party members and you can only use like 3 of them at a time. The worst part being the idle characters never get any experience, which forces you to level grind. *Surprisingly enough, I don't have an issue with grinding in JRPGs, I find it relaxing and fun to be hoenst.

6) Minigames in JRPGs- I cannot stress to you how much this annoys me. When JRPGs put minigames into the game as padding to the story. Some are good, but most are infuriating to me. Controls,  camera, difficulty, etc.

7) Pacing when it deals with the best weapons and armor...- That moment when you get the best weapons, equipment by the end of the game, and you got nothing to really use it on. Another thing I hate about JRPGs.

8) Missables- This right here is probably the most annoying for me. When you miss a certain action, which can't be undone. Most of which you wouldn't think to do without a walkthrough. ie) Tales games where you have to go to some random inn and sleep for the night to get a conversation with the main characters, or a title.

I know I'm missing other hated aspects of JRPGS, so I'll add them in later if I remember. These are some of the aspects of JRPGs that I hate. I'd like to hear your own thoughts on things you hate about JRPGS.
