I think you're reading into it wrong.
Sony's studios have made multiple IP all around (except Polyphony) Even ND who are mainly known for Uncharted and TLOU made many different IP on PS2.
What they're saying is that Microsft is known for focusing on established IP and the name change of a studio to something surrounding Gears of War (that has 4 games already) is indication that that is not going to change. Coalition wants to be associated with Gears of War and that is a step in the wrong direction. No one has a problem with them making gears of war games the problem is that this name changes suggests that's all they'll ever make.
