PC - 980Ti worth it? - View Post

Consider this.
No matter what you buy, it will be ousted by a better card by AMD or Nvidia within 6 months anyway.

If youre planning on using a 1080p monitor, just get the 980 and enjoy yourself, my old rig has two 780ti in sli and even at 1440p has no problems with any games, if however youre buying a 4k display, then you should be looking at sli not single card.

Not going with either, I'm buying a 1440p display, been playing 1080p for too long. Which is also why I'm looking for a card that sits somewhere above the GTX980 as a single GPU but not quite the overkill of an expensive SLi/Crossfire setup (and the mandatory issus that come along with it).
Yeah, as I mentioned above, 4k gaming on single cards just isn't an option for anyone, I have yet to see a single benchmark above 30 fps average with effects turned on, and for me higher resolutions without the possibility to go nuts on effects kinda defeats the purpose of a rig with great visual output capacity.

I know that there's something better coming all the time, it's like when people buy new smartphones...

But I'm getting something that kicks ass today and will hang in there for a few years, my current rig is already close to 5 years old so waiting another year (or even 6 months) is out of the question. I've been considering the GTX980 for some time, but was surprised when they suddenly dropped the 980Ti, though it would come closer to fall.

Will wait for more news and benchmarks from AMD though, but I'm not too keen on 4GB single cards right now, HBM or no.
