I really disagree with the ouya nintendo approach for these reasons

1) As people have shown, people would rather game on their smartphone (that also acts as a phone), rather than buy a dedicated console with similar specs to their phone (it just saves a big hassle). Nintendo is already making smartphone games, and if people truly want a nintendo experience on an inferior device, they would simply buy a 3ds (already has smash bros, mario kart, 3d land, essentially most of the wii u games in smaller form)

2) casual gamers both split to smartphone or PS4. Yes the PS4. While it may not seem like it, the PS4 is the MOST casual friendly console. It supports or will support the most casual games so far (FIFA, COD, guitar hero, just dance, ...) As stated by sony CEO, the goal was to attract the wii audience, and for the most part it is working. So casual gamers would support a PS4tendo if done properly

3) In order to make a console succesful, the console must be worth owning. Regardless of console power, the console will thrive if it provides everything (or most of everything) the other consoles can and more. The wii only thrived because the competition messed up (ps3 was way too expensive and the 360 had the red rings). Instead of creating a wii slim (could have been the wii u but the wii u was 2-3 years late) or investing in a proper gaming controller, nintendo chose to do nothing and ignore their problem (inferior wii hardware). So when the ps3 slim and xbox 360 slim fixed their respective issues, they both started to massively gain ground on the wii. This is why the ps4 is succesful, because there is literally nothing to complain about on the ps4
