I have a Wii U (bought it used for 200 euro) and I can tell that the gamepad isn't needed in any game i have played, just optional minor staff.
If they have started the console at 200$ without the gamepad they would have better sales because Wii U has some decent games and the most exclusives than any other console.
In my country Xbox One sales for 300 Euro , you cannot have the same price for Wii U it's suicide.
