Other M most definitely. You can skip cutscenes after the first time you beat it and despite the gameplay having a few hiccups here and there it's the closest thing to a 3D Super Metroid...so I'll take what I can get.

It literally plays nothing like Super Metroid, though. It's not even a Metroidvania.

It is VERY much like a metroidvania kind of game because you can go back to other areas not accessible from before after gaining abilities.  I have actually found the most fun part of the game to be after you get all the abiliites and then you're searching for all the items throughout the game.  It plays like a 3D version of it in its control scheme.  There's a very retro feel: You can just hold up in many sections for instance while Samus will automatically move in a curved motion towards your destination.  Plus there's the fact that she moves rather fast with quick and easy input in the game.

There's a lot of mid air control as well what with the wall jumping control and regular somersaults.  The additions of FPS shooting and reaction dodges are the differences, but that doesn't mean it doesn't feel like a metroid game with its more traditional gameplay.
