I have the same question. After 4-5 million copies they probably sold $20-$30 on average per game. But still its a lot of cash.

The game was on sale on steam for less than $10 several times, I guess that's where a lot of those sales come from.

Well, Steam Spy has it at ~3.4m so there's still 7.6m unaccounted for!
