Well

I love video games because:

1) They migth be situated in a world beyond my normal imagination. However when these worlds are on the big screen in front of me, my imagination can go even further. Thoughts can be quite a powerful thing.

2) I love playing a hard game, and then when you're halfway through, you just know you've gotten really good at it. That is an amazing feeling. But then there are new challenges. Find all this, complete this in this much time etc. When you beat those, you get another dose of satisfaction. Then you're at the point where you make your own challenges, and then no one sets the limit except yourself.

3) They are fun. It's a rather rimple reason, but it is one of the most important ones. While not all games have to be fun, they all have to be gripping. Not necessarily the story, but the game itself has to make you want to play on. Some games do this through the story, others through the gameplay, and some do it through both.
