Gamecube Controller is not recommended (by me). Use Wiimote + Nunchuck if you're not going to use the wheel. It is a bit awkward at first, but is a lot more fun than Gamecube controllers. I haven't used a classic controller, but I believe that ranks on par with the GC, if not below.
