Well, on many points you can say the same about the Wii : poor third party support, old hardware, expensive (it's about the same price, I don't think it's expensive), online gaming is shit (disagree on this one, Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon are working well and the online is free).

The last points about target audience and nothing new should not change anything for you.

In my opinion, you should buy a Nintendo console because of the quality of Nintendo games. Not because of the hardware or the third party support.

Wii U is Wii 2.0 imo. Everything is the same (and I own already a Wii)...
Look at Sony or Microsoft and how much differences there are between last gen and current gen (better online, task-system, record gameplay...). This is Next-Gen!

Oh, you already own a Wii, then I understand you're not really interested in the WiiU.

I'm in this situation with the PS3 and the PS4. I have the PS3 and I'm not interested by the PS4, because :

- 400 bucks + you have to pay for online gaming = way too much money

- No backward compatibility is a shame, so I have to keep my PS3, what the hell...

- What's really new here, except improved hardware and online ? Why would I care about task-system or recording gameplay ?

- Not many interesting games on it right now... This might change, but that will not be enough for me
