Well there is no set size limit for what constitutes a planet. A planet is a celestial body which:
*Orbits the sun
*Is not a satelite (moon)
*Has enough mass to assume a round shape
*Has cleared the neighbourhood around it's orbit.
And if I'm correct, Pluto fails at point 4.
But what function are you talking about?
