This is for the most part good to hear;
I wasn't aware that cell service carriers did -NOT- dictate updates outside of the US.
With that being said, in my particular scenario I've benefited quite a bit with Verizon controlling updates with my latest phone. I currently use the first gen Moto X which is past due to receive the latest firmware update (5.0.1 or something?) but because the architecture is unique to the phone, the update has caused wide spread issues which I've been able to entirely avoid thanks to my carrier.
