So you think Nintendo NX, is a streaming service? that can be used on more or less anything. Hasnt he already come out and said it was a "device" and thus it cant be a streaming service? |
What i am saying - and is basically what Iwata has been saying since he started talking about account systems - is that the platform is not the HW anymore. It's the games; the account with which you take your games with.
The way you play them, the actual HW, will vary.
As in, you could be faced with the choice between a mid-range console or a High-end console; you could be offered the option of having a Handheld or a Handheld plus a connection to a TV to bring your games to a big screen; you could have the option where Nintendo games can be streamed into a device for an only digital console and pay a monthly fee or yearly subscription; you could have the VC integrated into TVs, Blu-ray players or those boxes that provide TV (can't remember the name!).
The above shows that they want, or intend to, adapt to the market's desires. If the market doesn't want to pay for one type of device or is ready for something more, than why not offer?
They have already started branching out of their own HW (not for the big games, of course), so, there's nothing really stoping them from taking other steps.

You have put into words what has been floating around my head since I first heard about the concept of the NX. The HW is what interest me most, obviously. I like the idea of different types of hardware - like steamboxes. I think the NX is the final marriage of the Nintendo Handheld and console into one device. The Wii U was a poor attempt but none the less it was a test run. Experiences gained should be a major factor. Whatever it is they come up with, if it ain't powerful enough they might as well not bother. The days of the underpowered console is over. Neither developers nor consumers care for weak consoles. |
I wasn't talking about NX becoming a single device (Iwata already discarded that option).
I'm talking more about choice in how you play your games (see my answer above). Because that's what i am reading from all Iwata's comments so far.
And if you look at how you play console games, it really is a brand new concept.
