Mario is better for pick up and play casuals and shorter games
Zelda is the game you play by yourself in a dark room for hours on end enjoy the story and the puzzles.
I would normally say Zelda is better but as I am getting older I don't have the time to sit down and play though a whole Zelda game and get engrossed in the story. Twilight Princess took what, 35 hours? I got to the last temple then took a 2 week break and when I tried to play it again I forgot half the stuff going on. Not to mention all those side quests. Mario though is fun in a flash. Galaxy was a nice game to play a few levels at a time and just smile while doing it. Mario wins
