Here's one instead of opting for one historical setting have the whoever is the future guinea pig sitting in the chair (forgot whats its called) go throught different historical timeline with different lead characters in each of them. Have the player the option to switch between them anytime. Boom there you go the first open world time travel game. 

 

Of course im not a developer, but im sure alot of gamers would like to see that :P
