Long before then, Sony and MS will have released new consoles, and if that doesn't do it, then the Wii's own successor cause its sales to fall. |
Sort of like how the release of the curren-gen systems stopped the PS2 from selling, right? Key Points *The novelty of the Wii's motion sensing controller won't carry it for 10 years. *In about 3 years the Wii will be heavily dependant on 3rd party titles after Ninty have used their Mario and Zelda cards for this gen. * If Microsoft and Sony get the motion sensing control right then that'll further cut the Wii's lifespan. *The casual market is unpredicatble , they're always looking for the newest and most innovative thing , the Wii can't be that for the next 8 years. * The Wii already looks dated even in comparison to PS3 , 360 launch titles , whats gonna happen @ the end of this generation , games can only be optimised for the Wii so much. *If MS and Sony deside to release XBOX 720 and PS4 respectivley then it's basicly game over for the Wii , both are likely to have motion sensing implemented well or some other sort of Next gen control scheme , both will have georgeous HD graphics and both are likely to cost alot less. The only way Nintnendo can continue selling is by releasing a Nintendo Wii 2 , and there's not alot of room for improvment , it doesn't need HD graphics (doing so will make it cost similar to PS4,720) , they can do a hard drive this gen , they can improve their online this gen. The only thing I could imagine would sell Wii 2 was another killer controller. The novelty of the controller might not carry it, but that hardly matters, because it's how developers use the motion controls that will keep it going. No one believed that the DS touchscreen would last, see how that turned out. that's not true ( I believed) so I guess I would count as "no one". Your forgeting that the Wii sells are siginifcant amount of it's hardware and software to the casual market , once the novelty wears of , loyalty is thrown out the window for the next "big thing" Casuals won't wait around to see what developers can do with the Wii mote. And on a second note there's only so much you can do with the Wii-Mote in the same way there's only so much you can do with a gamepad. Keep in mind motion sensing isn't new technology it's been out for quite some time , there's only so many variations of "Whirl" and "Swing" you can put in a game. And there's only so much you can do with a DS touchscreen, but that hasn't stopped casuals from walking away from the DS. And if regular controls are the same in the sense only so much can be done with them, then won't they suffer from the same fate? Losing the interest of the users? "In about 3 year Nintendo will be dependent on 3rd parties" that's a problem now? Before it was "only Nintendo games sell" and soon it will be "only 3rd party games sell." Right. Why are you cutting words out of what I said ? You do realise that what fanboys do to discredit people they are debating with , please don't do it. I said Nintendo will be heavily dependant on Third parties , there's only so many Re-iterations of Mario , Zelda and Wii-XXX you can do in a generation. Well Nintendo can always develop new IPs, such as Disaster. And what exactly is the problem with relying on 3rd parties? And if there's no problem... then why did you use it to show how the Wii won't hit 200 million? Nintendo owns the market that likes the motion control. Going the route of motion controls will never work for the 360 because not everyone will have it. It has a 5% of actually becoming a hit. i'm sorry but you seem to have me confused for a complete idiot.Nintendo don't "own"any market , there just hasn't been strong enough competition to challenge them when it comes to the controls. Where are you getting your 5% statistic from , I hope some you as intelligent as yourself wouldn't be pulling it out of thin air. Sony's and Microsoft new motion controlers success is hugley dependant on them , it's how they implement and support the devices (once they support it properly it will sell) Every doesn't have to have it, it'll be an option for those who want to use it in upcoming games. Of course they don't "own" it, that was bad word use on my part. But they have the hype, and attention of the media and users. It'll be hard to break that. The 5% was a guess, which is what you did below when you said that the Wii is 3-4x worse looking. There haven't been many successful peripherals. That's just the way it's been. And since the 360 lacks any form of WiiSports type games... I just don't see it conquering Nintendo's casual audience. Casual market... well, all I can say is that's why Nintendo will move upmarket. Nintendo will move upmarket and exactly how do they intend to do that ? -By providing digital downloads ?- Can't currently do that W/o a hard drive -By providing High Resolution games ? Woops sorry console won't alow it -By releasing GTA IV , Halo 3 , MGS4 maybe ?Woops All PS3/360 exclusive None of those refer to moving upstream. Read Malstroms articles to gain understanding of this. Here's a link. All consoles looked dated compared to the PC. And all PC's look dated in comparison to super computers...What's your point ? PC's have been around forever their effect on console sales is neglible. My point is that no console has ever come out looking signifantly worse than it's rivals ( don't try mentioning the PS2 as it was inferior but still similar in performance) The Wii looks 3 - 4 X worse ( guess) on average than PS3/360 games , how's a Wii going to fare in comparison to a PS4 or 720 ? The point is that being outdated is sort of a relative term. In all honestly, I believe the 360/PS3 to be ahead of the curve, and not that the Wii is behind the curve. I base this on the fact that the PS3/360 were priced a bit high compared to what consoles normally are. And if you really want the best graphics, you need a computer. But this is debatable, and it's not worth arguing over. Once the Wii/PS3/360 were released, it was basically game over for the PS2, right? RIGHT? 1. They weren't released at the same Time When you say "they," do you mean the current-gen systems and the PS2, or the just the current-gen systems? If the Wii is the winner of this generation, then it's very, very, very likely that it'll last a few years after the next-gen starts, very similar to the way the PS2 is doing it. Look at this graph, for sales of 2007. Notice anything? The roughly 7 year old PS2 outsold the 1 year old 360, and newly released PS3. Basically, it won't "game over" for the Wii, and by that time (remember the 10 year plan for the PS3?), the Wii should be at 150 million or so anyway.
2.By the time all 3 were released (even without looking at data) I can guarantee there was a decline in PS2 sofrware ,hardware performance from the consumer transitioning into the next gen. Very true. But it was hardly the "game over" that you are expecting to happen to the Wii. 3.I never said PS4/720 will bring Wii sales to a grinding halt , I said it would shorten it's like span . Keyword "Shorten" When you do expect the next Xbox and the PS4 to come out? I mean, if the PS3 has anything less than a 5 year lifespan, then... I worry for the gaming market. And in five years, well. The Wii could easily be at 100 million. Both (PS4/720) are likely to cost a lot less than the Wii? Ok then. It's either you can't read properly or you can read and are being a blaitant fanboy. I said they are likely to "cost alot less" how does that have any relation to the price point of the Wii now ? I feel sorry for you. Why did you bring up the price then? I don't understand what you were trying to prove. So they're just going to cost "a lot less"? But "a lot less" than what? Than what the PS3/360 were when they were released? Or less than what the Wii2 will be? And I don't think adding HD graphics next gen will be all that expensive, especially since the PS4 and 720 will be cheap anyway (from your point above). Continue throwing out words I never said , it's not as easy sliding a card inside the console . HD is relative to the time , it could be argued that the XBOX was HD at launch. HD in 2014 isn't going to be cheap and in order to do that Nintnedo won't be able to release a console at half the price of their competitors. Maybe I don't understand HD, but I thought it was just simply the screen resolution? Or something? And by the time the Wii2 is released, I'm sure even the PS3/360 will cost $150, so being able to outdo them in terms of power and graphical power will be easy, even with a pricepoint of $250-300. So it will be HD. And anyway, you said "doing so will make it cost similar to PS4,720" which I assume you mean will be expensive. And I don't think Nintendo would be against having a console that similarly priced as the competition, as long as its not $600 at launch. |
