Back when I lived on acreage we had tons of snakes in the backyard.

It's not uncommon for me to see a spider the size of my hand span crawl up the wall while I'm sitting at the computer. They aren't dangerous though, Earwigs and Centipedes on the other hand....

My God, the thought alone makes me shudder... What if an Australian has Arachnaphobia? Must be a living nightmare! They did find a humongous spider in Norway once as well, it had climbed aboard a banana crate bound from South America to here, a forklift operator in a storage in Trondheim suddenly got this bastard on his dashboard!
