They do it more than you think. I have family in Seattle, and they say there are always Japanese people and Japanese themed events at the baseball games. I have also heard that Nintendo broadcasts Mariners games in Japan, which is why they have Japanese ads, which have been there since the Gamecube days. Heck, at an old E3 press conference (either 08 or 09) they showed some sort of DS app that fans could use at the baseball stadium. They definitely leverage the Mariners to market themselves.
