Because everybody on the planet owns a smartphone. Great solution. Clearly better than Nintendo just, you know, adding voice chat. 

Of course, so you buy a 300$ WiiU, and you buy an online multiplayer shooter, buuuuttt you dont have a smartphone/tablet/laptop/pc. Any of those.
