Sure, but each star is unique and collection is a key purpose of a 3D platformer. Also the average on How Long to Beat for the main story of SMG is 15 hours. The average for all play-styles is 28 hours.

A four hour long campaign mode would mean only 8 minutes per level (assuming the 28 level estimate.) 

from what i've seen 8 min looks right to me.  the levels are very basic compared to mario galaxy.
