Actually, sony is leading by example and microsoft is simply trying to mirror their success. How many policies has MS backpedaled on? There's plenty of differences between them. They do not have the same exclusives, policies, plans with their consoles/services and world wide presence. One of 'em is focusing on VR and game streaming. The other is going with AR and intergrating console/pc.
Sony is on top because it has the most appealing console and library of games to gamers worldwide.
