I don't think there is any question that Nintendo are 'hands-down', the best developer in the world (and always have been). In terms of originality, quality, game-play, innovation - and most importantly - truly fun games. It is the SOLE reason Nintendo is still in the games industry, and is the ONLY company to generate profit, after profit - every quarter. Even EA can't do this. In the 10-15years I have been following the industry, I only remember Nintendo issuing a quarterly loss ONCE (and it was pretty small - basically break even - due to GC development costs I think). The only areas that Nintendo are NOT #1 on are - graphics, pre-rendered graphics, voice recording, sound quality, etc (basically production values). And Nintendo don't care that much, as they don't significantly improve the "game" experience (but do significantly increase costs!).
