finally played The Order. my Sony biased opinion UPDATE finished it

Secondly, this was RADs first big console release. I highly doubt Sony would give RAD a big budget if they are unproven in the console field, especially on a brand new console.

As for the score, I think 6 is about right. I felt there wasn't enough gameplay and gameplay variety for it to score any higher. The Lycan sections were badly designed and the whole game felt like a prologue to a franchise in the making.

I wonder even if this franchise will ever take off after the bad publicity and start it has received and therfore, if it is worth making a sequel considering a sequel will have to be frigging brilliant for people to trust to buy it after what people experienced with the original.

Although I bought it at launch, I'm just glad I traded it within 2 days and only lost £5 on trade thanks to my store price matching it.

The game flopped, period. Can people stop with this "I'm sure Sony expected this to not sell much and it didn't have a big budget", Sony wanted this to be big, that was clear from day one, they gave the game a huge dev cycle, even gave them a couple extra months at the end and let them miss the holidays (in hindsight they might have faired better in sales if they just pushed it out during the holidays), announced the game back in 2013 already and gave it a big marketing push at the end, it's clear as day that they wanted the Order to be one of the PS4s big franchises this gen, no way is that game a success while struggling to hit a million.

Can people stop with this "it's a flop period, I know all better. "

 

No one knows the budget, no one knows the plans Sony had with this game, and most of all no one has evidence. All we have is speculation, not even confirmation on how big this studio is. 

 

Ofcourse Sony would have liked it to selll millions. Everyone wants their game to sell millions! However, for almost a before year before release this game was getting grilled for not having any gameplay and nothing changed. as Sony has said on numerous occasions, sometimes they know they are making a loss with a game. Maybe they did, maybe they didn't. Maybe they just released to make back whatever they could make back. No one frigging knows. 

 

Also, a flop is subjective add it depends what the purpose of the game was. If this game was funded strictly for Selling millions of copies and nothing more, yes it flopped. 

 

However, if the purpose of this game was for RAD to prove can build a console game, their own engine, create a new interesting world, they possibly/ likely  succeeded.

 

If Sony paid them to create a 90+ metacritic game, the game is a flop. However, if Sony paid for a glorified tech demo that shows the power of the Ps4, it isn't a flop. 

 

I don't know where you live, but here in the UK I barely saw any advertising for it compared to ISS, Destiny, TLOUR Etc

 

Not saying it didn't flop, not saying it did flop, just saying shit is not always black and white
