While I'm not personally involved with hunting, I know some who are. Now, they do eat their game, but that doesn't mean they don't hunt as a hobby, because that's what it is. But despite that, they don't "kill for fun". From what they've told me, the fun is in everything around it, from just being out in the wild trying to track them (not birds lol) to following those tracks and finding them, to getting in the right position, and then get what you were after (the prey). They certainly don't kill for pleasure, that would be if they were placed at a gun aimed at a bird, without anything of the build up I wrote about previously, pulled the trigger, and found that simple act pleasurable. Guess what; they don't.
