Start the hype early, hit it hard, and before anyone's even had a chance to play the game you've convinced enough people to buy your game to cover half the budget.

The other half is convinced by the overly exuberant praise doled out by the gaming media, too proud to admit they got duped the snazzy reveal trailer or who otherwise have a vested interest in portraying the next big thing as the second third fourth fifth sixth coming of Christ......that year.
