Honestly, I think they simply had a product that would've been far better received before the financial collapse of the world, and the Earthquake etc... median incomes after that plummeted, and people just couldn't afford that kind of stuff as easily as they would've prior to the collapse.  I wouldn't call the price arrogance (since they were taking a 2-300 loss on each console), but...they certainly weren't thinking about the possibility of such a collapse occuring.
