I wish they could just continue to use him but Marvel is saying no. I can't see why Sony and Marvel can't mesh together the current story of the recent Spiderman movies with future projects so a reboot wouldn't be required. (it just sounds bad to reboot it again and again)

I presume Marvel wanted to go a different angle. Like I said, make him a kid. Make the Avengers shocked that this kid can do more than they can dream.

They probably also wanted nothing to do with Sony's Spider-Man universe. Marvel, like Nintendo, is very protective of its properties now.
